A broken buckle shouldn't end a trip. Field Repair Buckles are made to be fitted permanently with nothing more than a screwdriver, and the pin here is the stainless-steel screw that holds the buckle in place. Every Sea to Summit dry bag ships with them, from the lightest Ultra-Sil Dry Bag up to the heaviest Big River Dry Backpack.
Carry the right size and type in your repair kit before you head out. One-pin side release buckles swap out closures on most top-loading backpacks, daypacks, messenger bags, PFDs and bike bags: one end is fixed, the other is a ladderlock that takes a webbing strap you can tighten or loosen.
Two-pin side release buckles, by contrast, are a direct replacement for non-adjustable buckles such as those on dry bag closures and some backpack waist belts. They don't adjust.
