A cathole only does its job if it's deep enough, and this trowel is built around that number. Fully extended, it matches the minimum depth you should dig. Collapse it and the handle retracts into the blade, so it slides into a pack pocket without poking through anything.
Extra tough reinforced Nylon 66 keeps it light, and the glass-reinforced build copes with extremely cold temperatures. Inside the handle there's storage space for a lighter or toilet paper, handy when you're packing for a multi-day trip and don't want loose bits rattling around your pack.
One small tool, one less reason to skip Leave No Trace practice in the backcountry.
